Places have identity makers. So do the Rivers in those places. Water doesn't have a shape, but does a surface. Benares or Kashi or Varanasi is one of the oldest cities in India. The River Ganges is an integral part of the city of Varanasi and one of the major rivers of India.
Photographed immediately post the Pandemic lockdown period, this work looks at marrying the current landscape of india with the city and the river on its surface above and below - within and outside. Using the River Ganga's surface, a part of varanasi has been mapped photographically into the calm waters illustrating the multiplicities of surfaces giving the river a certain shape.
Realism married with Expressionism, this series looks at the surface of water with many layers using the catoptric anamorphic techniques with known optical instruments - some telling, some not so, some projected, some as is. A shape is forever. A Surface too.
